Why EMAPI Waterproofing?
Because Emapi is the leading company in Argentina in the segment of waterproofing, since the beginning of its activities in the year 1952. Because at present its annual production reaches 25,000,000 m2, equivalent to 3124 soccer fields, with a demand of more than 4,000 clients, not only in our country, but also in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
What is an asphalt membrane?
Basically it is a pre-elaborated material of variable thickness, used as a single layer for the waterproofing of new construction works or to be refurbished, for residential, commercial or industrial use.
How is the presentation of the waterproofing asphalt membrane?
Generally, its presentation is in rolls of 1 meter of width and 10 meters of length, which are gathered in pallets for its later distribution.
How is an asphalt membrane composed?
The membrane itself is composed of a top layer or self-protecting surface coating, a standard asphalt core layer having a reinforcing web and finally a non-stick film.
What type of asphalt membrane should I use?
We must ask ourselves two questions: 1) Will the membrane be exposed? (without any coating) 2) The substrate on which it will be applied is trafficable or non-trafficable?
What types of waterproofing membranes are there?
Both the topcoat and the self-protecting surface coating as well as the central core in a composition according to the destination and the provision to mourn the membrane. Emapi blankets cover all the needs for the waterproofing of both accessible and inaccessible covers.
Synthetically, we can classify them according to their composition and use:
- Asphaltic membranes with polyethylene surface coating (Emacober P / P lines, Emacober Geo P / P lines, N P / P Plus lines, W P P lines): advised in work where it will not be exposed to severe weather or occasional or continuous traffic. The most common example is placement under flooring.
- Asphaltic membranes with aluminum surface coating (Emacober AL lines, Emacober Geo AL Max lines, N AL Plus lines, W AL Max lines, D AL lines): its superior termination in common aluminum, the flexible, allows its exposure to intemperature and traffic Occasionally. It is the most diffused type of membrane in terms of use.
- Asphalt membranes with polyester geotextile or natural slate scales (Emacober Geo Pint lines, Emacober Geo APP Mineral lines): these are the ones that allow the production of clothes for confidential use, being resistant to all types of mechanical or climatic aggressions .
What precautions should be taken when handling and transporting the membrane rolls?
The rolls shall be stored in a covered place and protected from climatic aggressions such as dust, rain and solar rays and at a temperature not lower than 5°C nor above 35°C (41° F / 95°F). The horizontal stowage of the membranes will not exceed a height of 6 rolls.
What conditions must the substrate where the membrane is applied?
It has to be stable and homogeneous. It must be dry, free of foreign bodies (masonry residues or puncture-sharp objects) as well as substances that prevent proper adhesion of the membrane (oil residue, grease, hydrocarbons, etc.)
What are the climatic conditions advisable for the placement of a membrane?
The rainy days will be avoided to carry out the waterproofing works. Neither should they be performed when the ambient temperature is less than 5°C or above 35°C (41°C/95°C).
How do you install an asphalt membrane?
They can be summarized in the following points:
- On the substrate under conditions, a primer coat is applied over the entire surface.
- Once the primer is dried, the substrate is cleaned to receive the membrane.
- Using a gas torch, heat is applied to the base of the membrane to melt the non-stick film, avoiding burning the asphalt.
- The membrane is placed on the substrate (starting from the lower part of the roof) by pressing its upper surface and assisted by a cloth, in order to achieve a perfect adhesion and causing the exudation of the asphalt towards the edges, using A metal bucket to achieve a perfect finish.
- It must be taken into account that rolls placed from the lowest area must have a 10 cm overlap with the one following upwards, while the overlap with the rolls placed to one side must be at least 15 cm.
What are the complementary products?
They are products that help a correct application and completion of waterproofing works. The line of complementary Emapi products, such as Novasfalt ANR-5, the cold application asphalt emulsion, Macá P, quick drying asphalt solution, Welder, cold adhesive and Oxiflex, the hot application solid asphalt, respond to The most demanding standards of quality, being the irreplaceable ally of the Emapi membranes. In addition, Emapi offers to the market Fitaflex, the self-adhesive membrane for minor repairs.
